Eatza Pizza Enters Northern California Market with Plans to Open 12 New Pizza Buffet Restaurants
Scottsdale-Based Fast Casual Restaurant Concept Will Operate Restaurants
Throughout Greater Sacramento, Walnut Creek Corridor, and in Stockton

Eatza Pizza Inc., a Scottsdale-based operator of fast casual pizza buffet restaurants, today announced its intentions to build and operate 12 new restaurants throughout northern California.

The announcement was made by Ron Stilwell, president of Eatza Pizza, who said agreements have been reached with three franchisees to bring the unique and innovative dining concept to the northern California market. Eatza Pizza currently has 100 restaurants open or under development in the states of Arizona, California, Utah, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Florida, Mississippi, and Ohio.

Stilwell said the three new northern California franchisees include:

  • Darren Wassell of Danville who will own and operate six restaurants throughout the greater Sacramento market.
  • Najim Popal of Newark, Calif. who plans to open five Eatza Pizza restaurants in the greater Walnut Creek corridor.
  • Deepak Tejpal of Tracy who will open a new unit at 1239 E. Hammer Lane in Stockton.

Stilwell indicated that all of the new restaurants will feature Eatza Pizza’s new 5,000-to 6,000-square-foot prototype design that includes large redemption game areas that appeal to families and children.

“Northern California is perfectly suited to our concept,” Stilwell said, “that provides great food and great value for our customers. We are excited about having these three new franchise partners introduce our concept in northern California.”

While Tejpal has already identified a location for his restaurant in Stockton, Wassell and Popal are in the “process of finalizing their first locations,” Stilwell said. He emphasized that all of the new restaurants would be situated in vibrant shopping centers within easy driving distance of a number of residential neighborhoods.

Plans call for Tejpal to introduce his Stockton restaurant some time early in 2006, with Wassell and Popal opening their first Eatza Pizza units during the first or second quarters of next year, Stilwell said.

“We are truly excited about entering the northern California market in an aggressive way,” Stilwell stated. “The Eatza Pizza concept continues to be well received by the American dining public,” “with most of our restaurants showing double-digit increases in same store sales over last year. Our goal is to create a mainstream brand image that will resonate with families looking for a quick and enjoyable dining experience at an affordable price.”
