Strong Average
Unit Sales Keep Del Taco Among Top 10 Chains
(Lake Forest, CA) July, 2005
-- Del Taco maintains its Top 10 status among the industry’s best
chains in the latest Top 100 Chains Report by the trade magazine Nation’s
Restaurant News.
According to the rankings, published in June, Del Taco ranks ninth in
average sales per restaurant in the Sandwich Category. The chain first
climbed into the Top 10 in this category in 2001. Since then, Del Taco’s
average unit volume has climbed more than XX percent and the chain has
opened several new markets including Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Colorado
and Michigan.
“This continued good news is testament to the Del Taco concept,”
said Ron Petty, company president. “We’ve been very successful
in developing systemwide operational excellence. Hence, the impressive
per store volume of more than $1 million. It’s a real mark of distinction
for Del Taco to be among the most familiar brands in the restaurant business
– like McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Jack in the Box and Carl’s
Jr. ”
Petty said strong consumer response in new markets also has helped to
push sales volumes for new franchise restaurants consistently above the
system average.
The chain is in the midst of an ambitious effort to expand beyond its
Southern California roots. Recently, Del Taco opened the first of ten
new restaurants in Michigan and announced plans to enter the Chicago market.
Del Taco is a privately held company that operates, or franchises, more
than 445 Mexican quick service restaurants throughout the United States.
Del Taco is the second largest Mexican restaurant chain in the United
States with individual restaurant sales volumes that exceed all other
Mexican quick service competitors. Del Taco features fresh ingredients,
made-to-order food, unique Mexican entrees, and an American menu that
includes double cheeseburgers, shakes and crinkle cut fries. Del Taco
restaurants are designed with a festive interior and drive-thru.
