Captain
D's Seafood Restaurants to Break Ground for First of Up to Three Units
in Detroit; Paul Hubbard, Wade Briggs are Franchisees
NASHVILLE,
TN. April 20, 2006--Captain D’s LLC, the 35-year-old pioneer
in the seafood restaurant fast- casual category, will break ground 10:30
am, Tuesday, April 25th for what could be up to three new restaurants
in Detroit. Detroit area civic and business dignitaries are expected to
participate in the ceremony at the 10711 Seven Mile Road (near Myers)
location, which is being hosted by Detroit business, and civic leader
Paul Hubbard and former radio personality Wade (Butterball Jr.) Briggs.
The 2,400 square feet
restaurant marks the first of three restaurants that Hubbard and Briggs
plan to open in Detroit. The Seven Mile and Myers location is expected
to open in midsummer.
According to Mike
Pearce, Captain D’s vice president of franchise development at Captain
D’s, his company projects Detroit to accommodate a total of 60 restaurants.
Alpha Restaurants,
LLC, will hire about 25 persons for their first restaurant and Mel Garrett,
a 25-year McDonald’s franchise and executive, will manage the new
Captain D’s.
Hubbard and Briggs
have both been active in civic organizations, business and Detroit media.
Hubbard is the former president of New Detroit. He most recently has served
in Toledo where he was a community builder for the Federal Department
of Housing and Urban Development and in economic and neighborhood development
for the Mayor of Toledo. Briggs has been involved in a number of local
businesses following a career in local radio and cable television.
Captain D’s
offers consumers sit-down, carryout and drive-through service and a menu
of its famous signature fried fish, seafood, chicken and side dishes.
Headquartered in Nashville,
Captain D’s, LLC opened its first restaurant in Donelson, Tenn.
as Mr. D’s and the company later changed its name to Captain D’s
Inc., and then Captain D’s LLC. There are nearly 600 Captain D’s
