Black Bear Diner The secret to Black Bear Diner's black "beary" cobbler is more than just special ingredients. Tucked away in the Mount Shasta Diner is the source of the cobbler's appealing taste - prep cook and cobbler creator, Maria Garcia.
Maria has been with the Diner since it opened eight years ago and it's her special recipe - which she won't give out - that keeps people lined up to get a taste of the cobbler. A pinch of this, a bit of that, and a lot of experimenting are what make the cobbler go great, Maria says. When the Mount Shasta Black Bear Diner first opened it had a string of customers who loved Maria's cobbler so much that they'd call the Diner early in the morning so they could get the cobbler fresh out of the oven, before it was all gone. It is still difficult to keep the Mount Shasta Diner stocked with black "beary" cobbler.
Maria has lived in Mount Shasta with her husband Alvin for 33 years. She is the mother of five children and a grandmother of two. She enjoys shopping, flower gardening and sewing.
So when you're in the area, be sure to stop by the Mount Shasta Black Bear Diner to try some of Maria's special cobbler.
